I’m really pleased to introduce a “Q and A”  with Karin Hurt of Lets Grow Leaders: Leadership speaker, consultant, and MBA professor.  See below for more information about Karin.

This month’s theme is around emotional intelligence.  How important do you think EI is for leadership now and in the future?

Emotional intelligence is vital for leaders. I’ve seen so many “leaders” derail because they didn’t invest the time necessary to develop their EI. The ability to truly connect with other human beings is the foundation for any leader.

We love the work you are doing to help grow leaders with your consultancy practice, Lets Grow Leaders, what inspired you to get started?

Leadership development has always been my passion. My first decade at Verizon was all about leadership and organizational development. Then I went out in the field and spent another decade as an executive leading large teams in sales, marketing and customer service. All the success in those roles came from selecting and developing leadership at every level.

About 3 years ago, I started to capture the lessons and stories by writing a blog. I was amazed by how the message resonated with an International Community. I realized had more to contribute than staying at one company, so I took to leap to go out on my own to follow my passion. I’m now consulting, speaking and writing with a core message of getting great results through confident humility.

You launched your new book “overcoming an imperfect boss”, what messages were you hoping to send to readers?

As a leadership expert, what is the single best piece of advice would you give to a new leader?

Be confident and humble.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

Now your book is out there, what is next for you?

 More keynote speaking and consulting. I also have 2 additional books in the works.

    I thoroughly enjoy what I read by Karin Hurt.It’s not fair to just say I enjoy it though. I love her practical, down to earth, way of pointing out leadership traits that can help anyone, even the non-leaders to navigate their careers.
